The Division 1 title race in the Alpha Trophies-sponsored Edinburgh Bowling League will go right down to the wire with record seven-times winners Craigentinny entering next week’s final round of fixtures defending a narrow one-and-a-half point lead over Maitland.
This week, Craigentinny were forced to settle for a 5-4 win at relegation-threatened Queensberry while Maitland lost 5-4 at defending champions Parkside.
Queensberry produced wins on the rinks skipped by Jordan Davidson (17-8) and Brian Pollard (23-22) and came within a whisker of capturing the bonus point. However, Andy Jeffrey (18-10) and Andy Caldwell (13-10) tipped the 61-60 shot aggregate in favour of the visitors.
Craigentinny host Parkside in the last round of fixtures while Maitland face a visit from Queensberry, last season’s runners-up needing to produce an extra special result to maintain their top-flight status.
Northern helped their cause with a 7-2 win over doomed Pilrig to stand three points clear of Queensberry. Hillside beat Tanfield 7-2.
