East Lothian stars Jamie Higgins and Derek Oliver did Scotland proud by capturing the Pairs Title at the indoor bowls British Isles Championships in County Durham.
Oliver skipped Higgins to a commanding 23-15 victory over John Downey and David Prosser of Wales that was highlighted by carding 3, 4 to lead 19-7.
Their prelim-round match against Todd Priaulx and Chris Dyer of the Channel Islands saw them drop only two singles as they stormed into the semi-finals with a 26-2 victory. And the last-four encounter would have been fit to grace any final as world stage stars Greg Harlow and Nicky Brett of England were defeated by 22-14 in a tremendous Scottish showing.
The flow of the match saw the Scotland partnership lead 7-2 after seven ends then produce a spectacular run of 2, 4, 4, 1, 1 that accelerated them out of sight to lead 19-2.
Finals day at the Championships became a memorable one for Scotland with the Falkirk rink of Alex Ness, Lloyd Ramsay, Bill Craigie and John Phillips slamming Wales 34-11 to capture the Senior Fours title. And Lynn Stein of East Fife iced the cake by making it a hat-trick of title celebrations with her 21-13 win over Alison Merrien of the Channel Islands in the final of the ladies’ Singles.
