Queensberry’s bid to win a first Specsavers-sponsored EBL Edinburgh Cup remains on track after they beat twice former winners Parkside in the quarter-finals.
The ‘three rinks at home, three rinks away’ format produced a 6-6 share of the points but Queensberry tipped the scales with a superior shot margin bank of nine.
The Queensberry leg saw Peter Lynch produce a 1, 2, 1 finish to skip Jimmy Curran, Jamie Anderson and Derek Jempson to a 16-13 win over Graeme Fraser, Ronnie Maywood, Andy Hargan and Paul Veitch. John Kidd carded 5, 3, 2 to cross 10-5, then skipped Brian Jempson, Paul Manson and Mick Imrie Jnr to a 27-12 win over Brian Salvona. Parkside did make an away-leg impression with Robert Donaldson skipping Martin Burns, Gareth Edwards and Dave Sherriffs to a 19-12 win over Jimmy McDougall, Stewart Stevens, Paul Kirkland and Brian Pollard.
At Parkside, the away rink of Paul Dickson, Mick Imrie Snr, Tam Ebbs and Scott Walker were held to a 14-14 peel by Danny Jackson. Then Brian Larkin, Paul Kirkland, Jordan Davidson and Frank O’Reilly slipped from 12-5 up to a 15-15 peel with home rink Brandon Maywood, Daniel McCourt, Steven Rennie and Neil Watson.
Parkside’s Derek Smith led 16-5 after ten ends but, in company with his front-three of Craig Bryce, Ian Fleming and Willie Watson, they slipped back to a 19-15 win over D Lawson.
In the other matches, there were wins for Tanfield, Bainfield and Northern over Dean, Postal and Brunstane respectively.
