Midlothian bowls champions Musselburgh open their campaign in The Co-operative Funeralcare sponsored Inter County Top Ten Tournament at their Glasgow counterparts Croftfoot in tomorrow’s prelim round action, writes STEWART MEIKLE.

Musselburgh, founded in 1855, is the oldest bowling club in Midlothian and will be representing the county banner for a second time. They have ambitions of emulating the recent national title successes of Newbattle (2006), Danderhall (2008), Bonnyrigg (2009) and Gilmerton in 2010.

Willie Rankin is the club’s ace in the pack and he will parade his skills in the singles with Scott Reid and Jocky Miller forming the Pairs partnership.

Club president Stephen Robertson skips Derek Mooney and Brian Martin in the triples, while Mickey Robertson, Andrew Neilson, Neil Murray and Sandy (AJ) Knight form the Fours.

Aberlady fly the flag for East Lothian. Jim Pringle is the spearhead figure in the Singles with Gordon White and Andrew Dunleavey forming the Pair. Billy Dunleavey skips Colin Penman and Aklastair Russell in the Triples while Ben Inglis, Gus Scott, Gordon Hunter and Brain Hunter line up in the Fours.
