West Lothian’s Sandra Steven and Kirsteen McLelland clinched the Ladies Pairs at Ayr.

The Uphall Station duo led 6-0 in the final and then built a solid foundation for their 24-10 victory over Jane Fowler and Cathy Druggan of Sorn with a dominating run of 1, 3, 6, 3, 4 to lead 24-9.

“We got off the hook in our semi-final as we trailed Denny 14-8 with four ends to go but scored 3, 2, 1, 2 to snatch a 16-14 victory,” reflected Steven.

Victory ensured the partnership added to previous title triumphs in 2006 and 2008 and it was particularly sweet given they had been defeat narrowly in last year’s final.

Kevin Anderson of Dumbarton stepped up on his junior singles success of 2010 to win the Singles proper at the 21-16 expense of Alan Gray of Eaglesham having hit 21 with a three on end 20. Gray beat Colin Walker of Pathhead, 21-14, in the semi-finals.

Other finals: J/ Singles: Callum Taggart (Hyndland) 21, Chris Stein (Markinch) 7; Laura Welsh (Garrowhill) 21, Nichola Bell (Falkirk) 9.

Triples: Denny finished 1, 2, 2, 3 to beat Airdrie Central 19-18 in the Gents while Airdrie lost 20-10 to Ardross Alness in the Ladies.

Ladies Fours: Newton Park 27 Wilton 6.
