Lochend’s Aston Brown was knocked out of boxing’s World Amateur Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan, after a narrow defeat by current European 75kg champion Jason Quigley, of Ireland, in the last 16.

It was always going to prove a formidable task ousting Quigley, who, by overcoming Brown, won his 29th consecutive fight and moves into the last eight of the tournament.

Nevertheless, Brown, 22, who beat Korea’s Jaemin Jeonghas in the first round, showed he can mix it up with some of the world’s core fighters and was complimented by the Irish team for running his opponent extremely close throughout their three-round contest.
