A team of seven Scottish boxers, four from the Capital, caused an upset by returning from Hereford with a 5-2 win over the British Army boxing team.

Any visiting squad to the home base of the SAS has, historically, found it tough to take an overall aggregate victory of any kind. However, the form book was ripped up this time as Scotland put in a series of powerful performances to take the honours.

Lewis Benson (69kg) and Tommy Philbin (81kg), both of Lochend, and Craigmillar’s Jason Easton fighting at 64kg, displayed too much class for their opponents, Jimmy Randall, Christian Flynn and Matt Wells respectively, but there was disappointment for Stephen Tiffney at 57kg, also of Lochend, who lost out to James Allen in a closely-fought bout.
