Amateur Boxing Association Scotland’s national championships takes place this afternoon, with over 60 bouts scheduled at Meadowbank Sports Centre.
With an array of youth, novice, intermediate and elite contests all set to feature in the inaugural competition, chairman and promoter Bradley Welsh is predicting a real boxing feast this weekend.
“It’s been all guns blazing to get this on that has taken two years hard work,” he said.
“It has been hard to promote this event because it’s on a Saturday afternoon coinciding with the Easter holidays.
“But as chairman of this organisation, the response has been great with clubs from Dundee, Aberdeen, Perth, Ayrshire and many others all taking part. There are 26 boxing clubs across Scotland registered to take part so the ethos is all about supporting your local boxer.
“There are over 40 kids involved from the age of seven up who are competing in the skill and style side of things, but we’ve also got some cracking bouts in the elite finals as well so it is sure to be a cracking day.”
Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children and are available on entry at the door at Meadowbank. Boxing gets under way from 12pm onwards.
