Lochend’s Commonwealth Games stars Josh Taylor and Lewis Benson will arrive back on home soil early next week after spending the past three weeks in Australia.

The duo are in the midst of a rigorous training regime ahead of their opening bouts in Glasgow next month which has taken them Down Under with the rest of their Scottish boxing team-mates.

Both have tweeted expressing their difficulties in adjusting to the ten-hour time zone difference at their base in Canberra, but have been put through the mill to ensure they are in pristine condition when they step into the ring in pursuit of gold.

64kg fighter Taylor and Benson, who boxes at 69kg, have already sampled victories during their stay in the southern hemisphere, Scotland winning the Sting Cup 7-3 against their Australian counterparts almost two weeks ago.

However, they now face a much more formidable challenge this weekend when they pit their wits against the Australian boxers who have been selected to represent their country in Glasgow in a contest labelled the ‘Burns Battle’.

With the countdown to the Games under the 50-day mark, Lochend coach Terry McCormack will have his work cut out when the pair return home.
