Lewis Benson’s pursuit of a third consecutive Scottish amateur boxing title remains intact after the Lochend boxer came through his 69kg quarter-final bout yesterday defeating Doonhammers Boxing Club’s Dennis Broadhurst.
The 22-year-old prevailed with a unanimous decision at Scotstoun Sports Complex in Glasgow to seal his place in the semi-finals on March 15.
His main rival for the coveted berth at this summer’s Commonwealth Games, Connor Law, also progressed to the penultimate stage.
Elsewhere over the weekend, Meadowbank’s Lewis Paulin (60kg) overcame the Barn’s Josh Sandford in convincing fashion, as did Jason Easton of Craigmillar in his 64kg clash with Steven Beattie of Kilsyth.
Benson’s club-mates Josh Taylor (64kg), Tommy Philbin (81kg) and Kevin Skey (60kg) are also safely through to the last four of their weight divisions.
