Carlton under-15s have again held their nerve to progress to the group stage of an ECB cricket competition.

Coach Rob Thornton’s team travelled to Tynedale and defeated the local club on fewer wickets down – seven as opposed to eight – after Carlton set a target of 121.

Carlton under-15s now head south again to enter regional finals on Tuesday, July 29 against three other qualifiers.

Tom Simpson top scored with 46 and Saif Khan took 3-15 on a day when two leading Carlton youngsters were away on international duty. Tynedale required eight off the last two balls but failed.

A week earlier they had prevailed despite their opponents, South Shields, requiring just 18 runs from five overs with nine wickets standing.
