Carlton maintained their dominance of the Murgitroyd Masterton Trophy and go through to next week’s national finals with a thumping 41-run victory over Watsonians in the East regional qualifier at Grange Loan last night.

Preston Mommsen top scored with 42 backed up by Jamie Kerr’s innings of 22 including a straight six as Carlton set a total of 137 that was going to be daunting given the slow outfield.

In reply Watsonians were 96-9 having got off to a slow start with James Easton playing on to Gordon Drummond and fellow opener
Dewald Nel giving up a catch to Toby Bailey off Omar
Ahmad close to the wicket. At 68-6 after 16 overs the writing was on the wall for
’Sonians and tight Carlton bowling was further rewarded with Sean Olivier taking three
wickets.
