Cricket: South’s Beghin hitting centuries for fun

GRAEME Beghin’s superb season with the bat continued as he hit 156 on Saturday to help Edinburgh South comprehensively defeat St Boswells in East One.

The in-form South African added to centuries against Carlton II and Murrayfield DAFS to lead his side to victory at Inch Park. Batting first, Edinburgh South made 301 and then skittled the Borderers out for 126.

Carlton II remain unbeaten at the top after they saw off Musselburgh by 56-runs at Grange Loan. Matt Wells led the way with 79 and Rob Thornton made 37 as the hosts posted 215 batting first. Musselburgh were then bowled out for 159 with Thornton completing a good day with five wickets.

Grange II are also unbeaten after they were involved in a farcical match at Dunfermline. The Stockbridge men bowled out the hosts, who had only seven players, for 19 and then knocked off the required runs in just over two overs to win by 10 wickets.

Alastair Carmichael took 5-58 to help Edinburgh Accies bowl Holy Cross out for 160 at Arboretum and then Andy Moffat led the way with 32 as Accies got home by two wickets.

Teenager Ally Sadler held his nerve for Watsonians at Academy Park, hitting a four as part of the last-wicket pair, as the visitors edged home against Murrayfield DAFS.
