Eastern Knights cricket coach John Blain has praised SMRH duo Michael Miller and Elliot Ruthven as well as other new players to the regional set-up after they helped the team wrap up a trophy double this week.

The Knights, made up of players from the Capital clubs, secured the Cricket Scotland Pro50 Cup on Sunday when their match with the Western Warriors was hit by rain and on Tuesday night they defeated the same opposition by 40 runs at Titwood in Glasgow to win the Cricket Scotland T20 Blitz.

The Caledonian Highlanders have also been involved in the regional events and Blain said: “We have some really strong players in our region, but the guys had to go out and perform in the last couple of months and they did that.

“What has pleased me most has being able to give guys like Michael Miller, Elliot Ruthven, Hugo Southwell [of Carlton] and others a go at this level of cricket.”
