Disappointing weekends for Heriot’s and SMRH’s cricketers were completed yesterday when both sides were knocked out of the Scottish Cup.
On Saturday, Heriot’s had lost to Falkland in the CSL Eastern Premiership while SMRH had gone down to Carlton II in Baillie Gifford ESCA Championship action.
Batting first away to Ferguslie in round one of the Cup yesterday Heriot’s were looking to bounce back from Saturday’s loss, but it was not to be.
The Goldenacre men made 166-6 from their 50 overs and it never seemed likely to be enough.
In reply at Meikleriggs in Paisley, Ferguslie progressed to a second round clash with Falkland next month by reaching their victory target with three wickets in hand.
SMRH were on the road at NVT Poloc and the hosts made what looked to be a useful 206-8 batting first. The Inverleith men made a good start to their reply and were 33-0 after tenovers, but by the 20th over they had slumped to a disappointing 60-5.
Scott Blain made 34 and Liam Barrett 24, but SMRH were all out for 125 to lose by 81 runs.
