Hayden Mourits hit a superb century as SMRH defeated Edinburgh University in the Murgitroyd Masterton Trophy this week.
Batting first at Inverleith, the New Zealander stole the show. Kyle McCallum was out early to Tom Pratt for one, but Mourits went on the attack and smashed 107 off just 58 balls.
Included in the innings were nine 4s and seven 6s, and the knock helped his team to post 162-8 from their 20 overs.
Credit to the students, they gave the run chase a very good crack and David Braithwaite led the way with 44 not out from 37 balls, but in the end they finished on 141-5, losing by 21 runs.
Also on Thursday at Campbell Park Mazars Grange were given a real scare by hosts Edinburgh.
Batting first Grange made 125-9 with new Scotland man Dylan Budge making 35. Qasim Ashraf made 33 for Edinburgh in reply, but they fell just five runs short in their run chase as Grange came through.
A brilliant 97 from Tom Simpson and 87 not out from Ali Shah helped Carlton post 241-2 on their way to a thumping win over Musselburgh.
