Cycling ace Sir Chris Hoy has had his medal haul from the 2011 World Championships upgraded after the governing body UCI slapped a retrospective ban on Frenchman Gregory Bauge.
The Capital star featured alongside Matt Crampton and Jason Kenny in the Great Britain team sprint squad that landed bronze behind France and Germany at the championships in Apeldoorn, Holland last March.
And, he lost out to Kenny at the semi-final stage of the individual sprint competition before going on to win the bronze medal decider against Kevin Sireau of France.
However, Bauge learned yesterday that he had been given a one -year suspension, from December 23 2010 to December 22 2011, after missing a drugs test and being unavailable at his named address on two occasions in an 18-month period.
That means the French trio will be stripped of the team sprint title and Bauge will lose the individual crown. As a result, Hoy and his colleagues are promoted to team sprint silver, while Kenny is now the individual champion and Hoy is elevated to the silver medal position.
