Cycling: Edinburgh pair put on royally good display

Have your say

Capital youngsters Ben Forsyth and Emma Borthwick posted wins in the Edinburgh Youth Activcity Season Starter Cycling Series at the Royal Highland Showground.

The Edinburgh RC/Martin Currie Racing Team colleagues shrugged aside difficult conditions to see off the challenge of rivals from around the country in the Youth A races.

Forsyth took the final sprint by a bike length from Mathew
Peters (Perth United CC) and Rory Mellis (Ronde), with another Edinburgh RC rider, Matthias Barnet, fourth. Borthwick broke away with two laps left, coming home clear of Rhona Callander (Wallace Warriors) and Sarah Bradford (Johnstone Jets).

In the younger, Youth B age group, Fifer Joe Nally (Hardie Bikes) chalked up a win ahead of Sean Flynn (Edinburgh RC/Martin Currie RT).

Meanwhile, there was disappointment for elite road racers keen to have their first test of the season when organisers were forced to cancel the Dick Longdragon Memorial event in Aberdeenshire because of snow.
