Capital cyclist James McCallum can’t wait to perform in front of a home audience when the Pearl Izumi Tour Series comes to the city next month.

The route, which was confirmed yesterday, will follow the circuit used for the Edinburgh Nocturne in 2009 and 2010, starting in the Grassmarket and ascending the cobbles on Victoria Street before turning right along George IV Bridge, then beginning a high-speed descent at the Greyfriars Bobby statue to complete the lap.

McCallum, who now rides for NFTO, contested the 2010 race, an event in which another home rider, Evan Oliphant, finished third.

Looking ahead to the May 29 event, McCallum said: “It’s brilliant to have city centre racing back in the capital and The Pearl Izumi Tour Series back in Scotland.

“The Edinburgh public have been wanting cycling back on their doorstep and now they have it. Being a local boy it’s a massive motivation to put on a great show for the Scottish crowd, which I’m sure will turn out in their thousands.”

The programme also includes an event in the Matrix Fitness Women’s Series.
