BELGIUM-based Capital cyclist Claire Thomas will be back on Scottish soil today for the first a double assignment at the British Championships.

The former Edinburgh RC rider will line-up in the time trial over a 34-kilometre route in Ayrshire. Also in the field is teenager Katie Archibald (City of Edinburgh), who emerged without serious injury from a crash last weekend. Both are also scheduled to contest Sunday’s road race in Glasgow.

They face a tough task against Olympic track gold medallists Jo Rowsell, Dani King and Laura Trott, all riding for Wiggle Honda.

Alex Dowsett of Movistar, champion for the past two years and a stage winner at this year’s Giro d’Italia, will start as strong favourite for the 48-kilometre men’s event where Scottish 25-mile champion Iain Grant of Dooleys Cycles leads the home challenge.

Finlay Young carries Edinburgh’s hopes in the Under-23 event where his rivals include George Atkins, a member of the Great Britain junior squad.
