Capital cyclist Evan Oliphant will be in action on Sunday at the British Road Race Championships over 117 miles in Wales, looking to continue his good recent form.

Riding for Team Raleigh, the Scottish champion is joined by Commonwealth Games colleagues David Millar (Garmin Sharp) and Andy Fenn, whose Omega Pharma QuickStep team-mate Mark Cavendish will not defend the title he won in Glasgow because of illness.

Also on the start sheet is Edinburgh-based James McCallum, although the NFTO rider is unlikely to compete. Instead of making the trip south, he looks set to ride at the David Bell Memorial Road Race in Ayrshire.

The 64 mile women’s event in Wales features in-form Lothians riders Anne Ewing (WV Breda) and Claire Thomas (Velosport Pasta Montegrappa), as well as former City of Edinburgh trio Eileen Roe, Charline Joiner and Katie Archibald.

City of Edinburgh track sprinters John Paul and Jenny Davis will look to test their fitness ahead of the Commonwealth Games at the Manchester Keirin tomorrow, while Callum Skinner is back at this weekend’s Cottbus Grand Prix in Germany.
