Two early goals were Hearts Under-20s’ undoing as they lost 4-0 to their Aberdeen counterparts at Balmoor Stadium.
The Tynecastle side made two changes from the team that beat Motherwell so convincingly last week, Gary Oliver and Aaron Scott replacing Jack Simpson and Sam Daniel, who were both relegated to the bench.
Peterhead was bathed in sunshine, but the Hearts defence was caught sunbathing as the Dons burst into a two-goal lead through goals from Michael Jones on three minutes, and from Declan McManus three minutes later.
The rest of the half was fairly even, but Hearts were forced to substitute Billy King at half-time due to a groin injury. They should have pulled a goal back within the first minute but Angus Beith poked wide from close range. The Dons more or less finished the contest on 68 minutes when McManus headed home a Scott Wright corner.
Hearts created a couple of half chances but, with eight minutes left, substitute Kalvin Orsi added a fourth for Aberdeen.
Next up for the Hearts U20s is a re-arranged fixture v Dunfermline at Newtongrange on Friday night.
Hearts: Hamilton; L Smith, K Wilson, Gordon, Ford (Daniel 80), Buchanan, A Scott (Craigie 80), Holt, Beith, B King (Simpson 46), Oliver.
