Here’s what’s making the back pages of this morning’s newspapers in Scotland ...

• Rangers full-back Lee Wallace hopes the club sign free agent Marius Zaliukas after he played 45 minutes for the Gers as a trialist in a pre-season match at Brora. The duo were together at Hearts and Wallace described the relationship they have in defence as “telepathic” (various).

• Italian veteran Alessandro del Piero has expressed his interest in signing for Celtic. The Sydney FC star, 39, missed out on a move to Parkhead two years ago, but says it would be “great” to talk to the club (Sun).

• Celtic will discover the extent of captain Scott Brown’s injury later today. The Scotland international could miss up to eight weeks due to a hamstring injury picked up the Bhoys’ 1-1 draw with Rapid Vienna (Daily Express).

• Livingston pair Keaghan Jacobs and Simon Mensing are both expected to be back from injury earlier than expected. Jacobs is in line to be fit for the Championship season opener against Hibs, while Mensing has discovered he does not need a back operation and will be available before the end of the year (Daily Express).

• Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has urged David Goodwillie to get his career back on track after the Scotland international signed a one-year deal with the Pittodrie club (Daily Record).

• Ross County’s new striker Jake Jervis has promised to get among the goals after he moved north from Birmingham City (Daily Record).

• Former Hibs youngster David Gold has signed for League 2 outfit Berwick Rangers (Daily Express).

• Ashley Cole will earn £2million a year after he signed with Italian giants Roma (Scotsman).

• Falkirk manager Peter Houston says he is not scared about taking on Rangers in the Championship, despite admitting they have assembled the strongest squad (Herald).

• Fulham have agreed an £11million move for Leeds United and Scotland forward Ross McCormack (Sky Sports).
