Goalkeeper Scott Gallacher was beaten by a shot from the opponents’ penalty area in a bizarre end to Hearts Under-20s’ 3-1 defeat by Celtic.
As the match entered injury time at a wet and windy Greenock., Joseph Thomson blasted a clearance from his own 18-yard box over the head of Gallacher, who was out of position after taking a free-kick.
Hearts fielded Kevin McHattie, Brad McKay and Jason Holt as overage players, while Celtic had Nir Biton, Beram Kayal, Leigh Griffiths and Liam Henderson in their side.
Celtic pinned Hearts into their own half for long spells in the first half, but the visitors took the lead on 26 minutes. Celtic goalkeeper Leonardo Fasan misjudged a pass-back from defender Callum Waters, the ball squeezing under his feet and into the back of the net.
Celtic fought back to equalise three minutes from half-time, Griffiths netting a Toney cross at the back post.
Celtic took the lead on 84 minutes as Jamie Lindsay netted a Kieran Tierney left-wing cross.Lindsay was lucky not to be sent off following a heavy tackle on Henderson before Celtic’s third goal.
