Former Hearts defender Craig Thomson has rejected a move to Livingston to stay with Newtongrange Star until at least the end of the season.

The Evening News revealed that the Championship side were in advanced talks with the 24-year-old with a view to bolstering their squad for the second half of the season but the Scotland Under-21 cap has opted to remain at New Victoria Park with his current contract set to expire in May.

Thomson still harbours hopes of a return to senior football. The player – convicted of lewd, libidinous and indecent behaviour towards two underage girls in 2011 – last featured for Hearts that year before spending time on loan in Lithuania at Vladimir Romanov-owned FBK Kaunas and later at FK Suduva.

After being released from his contract with the Tynecastle club in 2013, he was given a route back into Scottish football a year later when he was signed by Junior outfit Arniston Rangers before he made the step up to the Super League with Newtongrange later that summer.
