Rangers striker Kris Boyd has been made the bookmakers’ favourite at 4/7 to score the most goals in the Scottish Championship this season, with Farid El Alagui and James Keatings priced as Hibs and Hearts’ most likely candidates respectively.

El Alagui is the third favourite at 7/1 behind 9/2 shot Kenny Miller of Rangers, while fourth-favourite Keatings, who scored 15 goals for Hamilton in the division last season, can be backed at 8/1 with bookmaker McBookie.

New Tynecastle recruit Osman Sow can be found at 20/1 to top the Championship charts, the same price as Hibs youngster Jason Cummings.

McBookie spokesman Paul Petrie said they had little choice but to make Boyd an odds-on favourite.

“It is very unusual to quote a player at odds-on to be top scorer in a league before a ball has been kicked, but given Boyd’s scoring pedigree and Rangers’ likely dominance in the division, we had little alternative,” he said.

“His biggest threat is likely to come from team-mate and old strike-partner Kenny Miller, who like Boyd is returning to the club.”
