FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD Callum Morrison scored for Hearts Under-20s as they lost 3-1 in yesterday’s Development League fixture with Celtic at New Victoria Park, Newtongrange.

Andy Irving, 14, was also introduced into a team where Jack Hamilton and Kevin McHattie – gaining more game time following long-term injury – were the only experienced players.

The opening goal came a minute into the second half, Celtic’s Paul McMullan netting a Calum Waters cross from close range via the crossbar.

Hearts enjoyed their best spell of the match for the next 15 minutes with Alistair Roy, Robbie Buchanan and McHattie coming close with fine efforts.

Celtic, however, added a second goal on 61 minutes, Joseph Thomson scoring with a diving header from a Jaison McGrath right-wing cross.

Six minutes later, the game was over as Jamie Lindsay added third goal from close range following a McMullan cross.

McMullan missed a penalty 60 seconds later after McHattie was adjudged to have fouled him in the box. Hearts got their consolation goal six minutes from time when Morrison scored with a 12-yard shot following a Buchanan pass.

Hearts: Hamilton, L Smith, Hutchings, Henderson, McHattie, Flanagan (Moore 58), Baxter (Irving 75), Beith, Buchanan, I Smith (Morrison 78), Roy. Sub: Mason.
