HEARTS have sold more than 5000 season tickets during the first week of sales as supporters buy up seats to witness next season’s historic Championship campaign.
Since the renewal period last Friday, fans have flocked to Gorgie to renew tickets and the club today revealed that the total uptake has already passed the 5000 mark. Not since the build up to the 2006/07 campaign have season ticket sales been so rapid at Tynecastle. New owner Ann Budge has asked fans to purchase seats using cash or cheques and more than half have obliged thus far.
The recent exit from administration and the signings of Morgaro Gomis, James Keatings and Soufian El Hassnaoui sparked enthusiasm after Hearts’ relegation to the Championship. Added to that, the presence of Rangers and Hibs alongside them makes for an unprecedented and ultra-competitive second tier.
Budge today publicly thanked supporters for their backing. “Sales volumes during the first week have exceeded all expectations. To break through the 5000 mark in such a short space of time is, quite simply, superb,” she told the Hearts website.
“This is the beginning of an exciting journey for everyone at the club and it is fantastic to see so many fans joining the revival. We asked the supporters, where possible, to use cash or cheque to pay for their tickets and to have so many doing so is very much appreciated. This is, truly, a great help to the club and I can’t thank them enough.
“We hope fans will continue to demonstrate their tremendous support for the club by continuing to renew and buy season tickets over the next few weeks. With Phase Two not launching until July 14, we hope we have given fans plenty of opportunity to take advantage of the best prices.
“Again, cash or cheque would be preferable but if fans choose to pay by credit card for personal financial reasons or because of the protection this offers, then that is absolutely fine.
“There are a lot of positives happening at the club at the moment, from new signings to exciting pre-season friendlies – and we are delighted that Manchester City will be our opponents in the special match to celebrate the centenary of our main stand at Tynecastle.
“During negotiations we have done our very best to ensure as many as possible of their first-team squad will be present, so both the game and the training session on the previous evening should offer lots of opportunity for old and young alike to see some of the world’s most acclaimed players at Tynecastle.
“The new season is fast approaching and, with the fixtures just announced, I look forward to seeing as many supporters as possible inside the ground when we kick off our first home game in the Championship against Hibs in August. Let’s all look forward to a great season.”
