Hearts’ Under-20s drew 4-4 in a friendly against a more experienced Sunderland Under-21 side at Riccarton yesterday as they limbered up for the resumption of their league campaign next week.
Sunderland raced into a two-goal lead, with David Karlsson firing home a brilliant 22-yard strike before Liam Agnew netted from close range. Hearts pulled one back through an Angus Beith penalty but Karlsson restored the visitors’ two-goal lead before the break.
Three minutes into the second half Sam Nicholson scored with a deflected shot as Hearts stepped up the pace, and the hosts equalised in 71 minutes through Beith. Carl Lawson gave Sunderland the lead again with a breakaway goal with three minutes left, but Hearts salvaged a draw in stoppage time when Rhys Craigie netted from a Robbie Buchanan pass.
Hearts: Hamilton; L Smith, K Wilson, Gordon, Ford, Nicholson (A Scott 83), A King (Craigie 83), Trialist (Buchanan 17), Beith, B King, Carrick (Simpson 52).
