Hearts will appoint Jon Daly as their Under-20 coach in January when his playing contract at Raith Rovers expires. Terms have been agreed for Daly to replace Jack Ross, who left Tynecastle last month.

The 32-year-old striker played under Hearts’ director of football Craig Levein at Dundee United, where he was also a team mate of head coach Robbie Neilson. He will take up his new role charged with helping youth academy players at Riccarton reach first-team level.

Daly is keen to move into coaching and Levein believes he has the attributes to potentially move up the management ladder with Hearts in time.

“I’m delighted that Jon has agreed to join the club in January and take up the post of U20s coach,” Levein told the Edinburgh club’s website. “Jon is somebody that both myself and Robbie know from our respective times at Dundee United and it’s an exciting appointment. We believe he has all the attributes to develop into a great coach and we look forward to welcoming him in January.”
