Paul McCallum scored his first two goals in a Hearts shirt as the club’s under-20s beat Ross County 4-0 at Tynecastle.
The Englishman, who arrived on loan from West Ham United last week, netted two headers yesterday to banish the disappointment of his first-team debut in Sunday’s League Cup semi-final defeat to Inverness Caley, in which he missed a good chance in extra time and then saw his penalty saved in the subsequent shoot-out.
McCallum struck twice in a three-minute spell yesterday to complement Billy King’s earlier double against the Staggies. The 20-year-old striker played for the full 90 minutes. Goalkeeper Mark Ridgers, Jordan McGhee and Gary Oliver were all included as Robbie Neilson’s team returned to winning ways. King opened the scoring on seven minutes with a fine right-footed shot from the angle of the 18-yard box. The winger added his second on 56 minutes with the same foot.
McCallum scored Hearts’ third goal with a close-range header from Aaron Scott’s corner on 79 minutes. Three minutes later, he rose to head home again from King’s cross and complete the win.
Meanwhile, Hearts will now host Aberdeen on Wednesday, April 1 after the original date of Saturday, March 15 was ruled out due to the Dons’ involvement in the League Cup final.
