A LATE Robbie Buchanan goal gave Hearts Under-20s a narrow but deserved 2-1 win against Kilmarnock in the Development League at Rugby Park.
Spanish striker Juanma Delgado was given a 90-minute run-out following his red card against St Johnstone last weekend while Alim Ozturk, Danny Swanson and Billy King got valuable game-time.
Killie opened the scoring on the half-hour mark, Lewis Morrison dinking a through ball over advancing goalkeeper Jack Hamilton.
On the stroke of half-time, Buchanan was thwarted by Killie’s trialist goalkeeper but, from the resultant corner sent over by King, Ozturk netted at the back post from four yards.
Juanma had a shot brilliantly saved in the second half and the Jambos had to wait until the 87th minute for their winner. King, straight through on goal, was fouled by Adam Hodge. After the Killie player was sent off for a second booking, Buchanan scored from the rebound after the goalkeeper had saved his penalty.
Hearts: Hamilton, C Morrison, Ozturk, Baur, L Henderson, Zanatta (Moore 63), Beith (E Henderson 63), Buchanan, King, Swanson, Juanma. Unused subs; Fisher, McKirdy, I Smith, Jones, Baxter.
