Ryan Stevenson has joined Partick Thistle on a two-year contract after leaving Hearts.

The 29-year-old departed Tynecastle by mutual consent last month and has opted to join Thistle despite interest from St Mirren.

His contract at Firhill will run until summer 2016, with the option of a further year’s extension.

Stevenson was eager to play in the Scottish Premiership next season following Hearts’ relegation and was unhappy with the reduced terms of his contract at Tynecastle.

His deal was mutually terminated and he became a free agent. The move to Glasgow allows the player to stay nearer his home in the west of Scotland.

From 29 league and cup appearances last season, Stevenson scored eight times for Hearts.

His last game in a maroon shirt came on Sunday, May 4, when he scored a hat-trick in the 5-0 demolition of Kilmarnock.

He previously played with St Johnstone, Ayr United and Ipswich Town after spending time with Chelsea as a youth.
