Hearts Under-20s conceded a last-minute goal to lose 3-2 to Partick at Newtongrange last night.
The Jambos included senior players Scott Gallacher, Scott Robinson, James Keatings and Jason Holt against an experienced Thistle side.
And it was the hosts who edged in front on nine minutes when Keatings finished off a move between Robinson and Angus Beith with a fine left-foot shot from 15 yards.
Robinson and Keatings came close with further efforts before Partick equalised in the 19th minute when Dominic McLarren netted from close range after a Kevin Nesbitt header had rebounded from the post.
Hearts’ Liam Smith had a 25-yard shot saved, with Thistle’s Jordan Leyden having a similar effort blocked by Gallacher.
The visitors took the lead on the half-hour mark when Liam Henderson tripped Declan McDaid in the box, and McDaid himself scored from the spot despite Gallacher getting a hand to the ball.
Hearts tried to respond and Keatings headed a Henderson cross just wide, while the home goalkeeper saved namesake Lee Gallacher’s effort just on half-time.
Hearts went on to enjoy the bulk of the possession in the second half. On 53 minutes, Robinson appeared to be fouled in the box but his appeals for a penalty were waved away.
Despite all their pressure, it took Hearts until the 74th minute to equalise, when Robbie Buchanan headed home a Beith corner at the back post. It looked like the hosts would go on and win the match, but, in the final minute, the Hearts defence failed to clear a corner and Partick captain Aaron Muirhead netted with a shot from 12 yards out.
