Hearts began their Development League campaign with a 2-2 draw against Rangers at Dumbarton.
Trialist Wilson Carvalho gave Hearts a third-minute lead with a shot from 12 yards after a Kenny Anderson shot had rebounded from a post.
Hearts added a second goal on the hour, Gary Oliver scoring a fine effort from just inside the box after turning his marker.
Sean McKirdy had a shot saved low as Hearts appeared to be heading for a fine win. However, on 80 minutes Jahmal Howlett-Mundle tried to dribble his way out of trouble, was dispossessed and Hardie shot home from 12 yards following a cross.
Hearts still looked the team likely to score again, however two minutes from time they conceded when substitute Jamie Brandon scored with a shot from around ten yards.
In stoppage time, Oliver had a 30-yard free-kick saved.
