Callum Booth, Paul Hanlon and deadline-day arrival Jake Sinclair all featured in the Hibs under-20s’ 1-0 win over ten-man Dunfermline last night.
The winning goal arrived in the 61st minute as Booth’s deflected free-kick gave the visitors a deserved victory.
The hosts almost snatched a draw in the dying moments, despite Paul-Joseph Crossan’s late sending off, but resolute defending and a wayward header from Jonathon Page sealed the win for the Hibs Academy side.
Hibs started the brightest, Conner Duthie coming close to an early goal, but his effort cannoned back into play off the inside of the post with five minutes gone.
Callum Crane was next to have a serious effort on goal, but his effort from inside the box sailed over the bar.
Sinclair made his mark on the proceedings as he looked to orchestrate play and helped exert dominance over the hosts as Lewis Allan and Duthie both went close to scoring, the latter also appealing for a penalty on 35 minutes.
The winning goal came in the 61st minute. Booth had to retake his free-kick due to encroaching from the Dunfermline wall, but his second effort was low and deflected off the wall to wrong-foot Ryan Goodfellow. Allan Smith tested Kleton Perntreou with a vicious effort after the goal before Hibs began to dictate the game again.
Crossan was ordered off with five minutes remaining, but a late rally from the hosts almost resulted in a goal as Andy Stirling’s delivery deep into stoppage time was headed wide by Page in the last meaningful action of the match.
It was Hibs Under-20s first points of the Development League campaign.
