A Conner Duthie double helped Hibs under-20s overcome Queen’s Park 3-0 and claim their spot in the SFA Youth Cup semi-finals at Easter Road.
The midfielder, 18, put Hibs in front with a penalty before adding a second later in the first half yesterday on what was a dream weekend for the youngster, who made his first-team debut as a substitute in Saturday’s 3-0 home win over Dumbarton.
Taylor Hendry made sure of the victory in the second period as he slotted home to complete the scoring.
The visitors were the first to threaten as James Marr headed wide from James Gallacher’s corner in the first minute but, after that chance, Hibs were on top in the game.
After a prolonged period of passing play, Aaron Dunsmore accelerated down the right and was taken out by Dale Jones in the box. Duthie stepped up to coolly send Sam George the wrong way in the 11th minute to open the scoring.
Hendry, Scott Martin and Callum Crane all came close to adding a second, but Duthie had that honour in the 37th minute as he capitalised on an error and slammed home from 20 yards out.
The second half was played out in the same fashion as the first and in 56th minute Hibs sealed victory as Hendry calmly slotted the ball into the net after ghosting beyond two defenders.
There was a moment of controversy as Hendry appeared to be felled in the box, but the attacker was booked for simulation on the hour mark.
Duthie, Hendry and Crane, all had further chances to stretch the lead but Joe McBride’s yong outfit could not add to their haul.
