Hibs under-20s won their second successive game in as many outings as they defeated their Kilmarnock counterparts 2-1 in Ayrshire yesterday.
The Edinburgh side, featuring Sam Stanton, Danny Handling and Alex Harris, fell behind as Lee Miller swept home a cross on the half hour.
In an improved second-half performance Neil Martyniuk levelled before Handling secured the points with a spectacular 25-yard drive.
The first half was a fairly even contest, with both teams dominating in spells, Kilmarnock’s forward pairing of Miller and former Hearts player Michael Ngoo linked up well with former Hibee Paul Cairney early on to create a succession of chances and the home side opened the scoring following good link-up play on the right-wing. Greg Taylor fired a low cross into the box and Miller was there to prod the ball into the net.
After the break the more experienced members of the Hibs side grasped the game by the scruff of the neck as Stanton fired over the bar.
And on 54 minutes the visiting side found the net to tie the game as Harris’s corner was headed into the goal by Martyniuk.
Just ten minutes later, the game was turned on its head. Following good build-up play Handling received the ball 25 yards from goal and unleashed an unstoppable drive beyond Devlin Mackay.
Lewis Allan then headed wide and also saw a shot fly narrowly over the bar as Joe McBride’s charges continued to dominate.
The closest that the Ayrshire side came to levelling the scores was when Craig Slater’s free-kick from 20 yards was brilliantly saved by Hibs keeper Kleton Perntreou.
