Edinburgh Rugby bosses have declined to confirm or deny speculation that the team currently based at BT Murrayfield could use Hibernian FC’s Easter Road as the venue for home fixtures next season.
Matches at the national stadium have drawn regular crowds of fewer than 4000 and the venue has only rarely managed to generate any atmosphere.
There has been frequent speculation over a move and a return to Easter Road has been mentioned in recent days. However, a spokesperson for Scottish Rugby responded to a request for clarification with a “No comment.”
Easter Road was used as a rugby venue in the 1998-99 season. Then known as Edinburgh Reivers, the Capital pro team played Heineken Cup ties against Ebbw Vale and Toulouse at the stadium and also used Myreside and Meadowbank before setting up base at Murrayfield.
The possible relocating could accommodate Hearts at BT Murrayfield, according to reports. The Jambos want to redevlop Tynecastle, particularly the main stand and are considering playing elsewhere for a season.
The club has used BT Murrayfield in the past.
