Former Hibs keeper Andy McNeil has gone back to his roots to coach aspiring young goalkeepers in his local Lochend community.
McNeil, who won the CIS Insurance Cup while at Easter Road, is taking weekly coaching sessions at Lochend Youth FC where he began playing himself, aged nine.
The former Leith Academy pupil said: “For me it’s getting enjoyment out of playing in goal and, hopefully, inspiring the kids to go on to become goalkeepers.
“I prefer to work in small groups otherwise the youngsters don’t get the quality of coaching or attention they need to improve.
“Lochend are a real community based club with a great facility and for me, being from the area myself, it’s nice to be able to get involved.”
Now playing with Airdrie, McNeil also coaches at the SFA’s Performance School at Broughton High School and at Edinburgh University.
