HIBS’ rampant Under-20 side continued their stunning recent form by obliterating their Aberdeen counterparts 6-1 in Peterhead yesterday.
Jason Cummings took his tally for the season to an incredible 30 goals with another double, but the 18-year-old scoring sensation was upstaged by strike partner Euan Smith, who bagged himself a hat-trick.
Abdellah Zoubir got Hibs’ other goal in a match that also featured first-team defenders Tim Clancy and Alan Maybury. The Dons side included first-team pair Gregg Wylde and Josh Magennis.
James McDonaugh’s starlets have now scored a remarkable 22 goals in their last four games and are right in the thick of the title chase alongside Rangers, Inverness and Celtic.
All seven goals at Peterhead’s Balmoor Stadium yesterday came after the break, with all the young Hibees’ goals coming in the last 25 minutes after a frustrating first half.
Indeed, McDonaugh’s boys had to come from behind after Scott McKenna gave Aberdeen the lead six minutes into the second half.
The game turned in Hibs’ favour in 65 minutes when Cummings dispossessed keeper Craig Burns before scoring, although the hosts felt he had done so illegally and Michael Rose was sent off for taking his protests too far.
Hibs made the extra man count, with Smith netting twice before Cummings added his second of the game in 83 minutes.
Frenchman Zoubir then got his name on the scoresheet two minutes later before Smith sealed the win and his treble with a last-minute penalty.
