A dazzling goal from Cody Mulhall earned Hibs Under-20s a 1-1 draw away to Celtic at Cappielow last night.
Celtic, boasting a raft of experienced players, took an early lead as Neil Martyniuk scored an own goal.
The Hibs youngsters remained steadfast in the wake of immense Celtic pressure in the second half, but eventually their chance came and Mulhall’s sublime strike ensured the game ended level.
Celtic looked like winning the game with ease after Alan Combe saved Leigh Griffiths’s header, the resulting corner ended with Liam Henderson’s low cross being turned into the goal by Martyniuk within the opening two minutes.
The young Hibs team stood up to the challenge of facing the likes of Beram Kayal, Stefan Scepovic, Jo Inge Berget and Griffiths in gutsy fashion.
And Hibs had the most chances in the first half, but wayward finishing and slack passes in the final third ended any hopes of a goal before the break.
Celtic dominated much of the second period with their multi-million pound strike force of Scepovic and Griffiths both having chances. Scott Martin had to clear off the line twice in a minute before Combe made a fine save from Paul McMullan’s low drive.
But, with four minutes to go, Hibs equalised from out of the blue as Mulhall curled home beyond Leo Fasan from 18 yards.
Max Todd had two chances to win it for Hibs, who extended their unbeaten run under Joe McBride to seven games.
