Hibs today confirmed that Estonian striker Henri Anier will be returning to relegation-threatened Dundee United – and fellow loanee Islam Feruz is also set to quit the club.

Anier, 25, arrived at Easter Road on a season long deal on transfer deadline day at the end of August, but managed just three appearances as a substitute for Alan Stubbs’ side.

New United boss Mixu Paatelainen was keen to have the former Motherwell player return to help the Tannadice club’s fight for Premiership survival but, as the Evening News revealed, Hibs had the final say on his immediate future.

But with the arrival of new striker Chris Dagnall, the Capital club have now agreed to release Anier.

Meanwhile, Feruz is reported to have had his spell at Hibs cut short. Initially signed on season-long loan from Chelsea, the former Celtic striker hasn’t scored from six appearances off the bench.
