HIBS were today expected to confirm that promising youngster Cody Mulhall faces a length lay-off as a result of the injury he suffered in an Under-20s match with Dundee United.
The Irish striker had an MRI scan carried out at the end of last week and, although the club are yet to reveal the full extent of his injury, the player is believed to have suffered cruciate ligament damage.
The Republic of Ireland Under-19 player was taken to hospital last Tuesday after landing awkwardly during the clash with United, which was played in Arbroath.
The 17-year-old was rushed from the ground in an ambulance at half-time and, although an initial X-ray showed no fracture, the scan is believed to have confirmed a serious injury.
Hibs feared the worst at the time, with head of academy coaching James McDonaugh saying: “He was away in an ambulance at half-time which is a disaster for him as he has been absolutely fantastic for us recently and improving his fitness.
“He was on standby for the Republic of Ireland Under-19 squad and he has been scoring goals and progressing really well for us.”
