HIBS will play UEFA’s newest nation Gibraltar in a pre-season friendly next month as part of their build-up for their Europa League qualifiers.

The match will be played on July 3 at Gibraltar’s Victoria Stadium which has a capacity of 5000.

Hibs will know their opponents in the Europa League second qualifying round when the draw is made a week on Monday and could face the likes of Sparta Prague, Red Star Belgrade, Utrecht or

Malmo.

Gibraltar, which is a British Overseas Territory, was granted full UEFA membership last month and will enter the Euro 2016 qualifying tournament. UEFA president, Michel Platini, has confirmed that Gibraltar and Spain will be kept apart in the draw.

Spain wants sovereignty over Gibraltar, which has a population of 30,000.

Gary Deegan, meanwhile, may have played his last match for Hibs.

The combative former Coventry City midfielder made an impressive start to his career at Easter Road last summer but his progress was halted after he suffered a broken jaw in an unprovoked attack outside an Edinburgh nightclub.
