Colin CALDERWOOD has revealed Hibs’ over-riding need for a win has forced him to ditch plans to give youth a fling in tonight’s Scottish Communities League Cup clash with Third Division Berwick Rangers.
Although 19-year-old Scott Smith forms part of the squad for the second-round tie at Easter Road, fellow teenagers Lewis Horner and David Crawford, who had been pencilled in by Calderwood for a taste of the action, will be sitting in the stand.
Instead, the Hibs boss promised his side, having suffered three defeats in their opening four SPL matches this season, will be “as strong as we possibly can be” as he seeks to avoid the sort of shock he suffered last season in crashing out of the Scottish Cup to First Division Ayr United.
