Hibernian Ladies defender Siobhan Hunter was shocked to be called up to the national side for today’s international against Iceland in Reykjavík.
The youngster has been a stand-out performer for her club this term and impressed during the recent UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship elite round, where she led Scotland to within touching distance of reaching the finals, only to lose out on goal difference.
“I’m still in shock!” admitted the centre half. “When Anna (Signeul, Scotland head coach) called me asking about my plans for this year, I assumed she was speaking about the National Academy. However, when she told me she wanted to take me to Iceland I was stunned. It’s a massive honour to be part of the national team.
“I’ve been doing so much extra training and [devoting] a lot of time to football that getting a reward like this makes it all worthwhile.”
