JAMES McPAKE handed Hibs boss Pat Fenlon a boost by playing the full 90 minutes of last night’s Under-20s victory over Motherwell.
McPake has been out of action since suffering a back spasm in the return leg of the Europa League qualifier against Malmo at Easter Road in July.
Hibs dominated the majority of last night’s match and Ross Caldwell came close to an opener in the early stages, only to see his shot fly just wide of the post.
However they still went in at the break with a two-goal cushion, thanks to strikes from Cody Mulhall and Jason Cummings.
The first came after good work by Euan Smith, who fired a cross in from the right, and 17-year-old Mulhall took one touch to control the ball and with his next slotted it past Well keeper Ross Smith.
Mulhall then teed up Cummings for a snapshot that came back off the outside of a post but Hibs weren’t to be denied for long.
They doubled their advantage two minutes before half-time when Cummings cut in from the right before his shot deflected off unlucky Motherwell defender Ross Kellock and into the net.
Motherwell pulled one back with 15 minutes remaining through Steven Higgins but the Edinburgh side held on for a deserved win.
