Jason Cummings scored the only goal of the match as Hibs under-20s overcame Celtic under-20s in Livingston last night.
Celtic’s youngsters had opportunities to level the game, despite being down to ten men, but a spirited defensive display ensured they left empty-handed.
The win moves the Leith side to within two points of joint leaders Celtic and Rangers.
The first chance of the match saw Liam Henderson’s effort on goal blocked by Daniel Boateng before Max Todd was denied a shooting opportunity as Marcus Fraser produced a stunning last-man challenge.
Eight minutes later, Cummings scored after collecting an Andy Black header and turning past Fraser before firing low into the far corner of Leo Fasan’s goal.
Celtic dominated the start of the second half. Henderson and Holmbert Fridjonsson saw efforts saved by the in-form Paul Grant, while left-back Ryan Baptie blocked a strike from James Lindsay.
On 62 minutes Darnell Fisher was dismissed for serious foul play and soon after Kevin Thomson tried his luck from distance, but it was deflected over the bar.
At the other end, Tom Gardiner cleared a Fraser header off the line.
Substitute Callum Crane almost put the game beyond doubt as his strike, aided by a deflection, forced Fasan into a smart stop.
The league leaders applied a lot of pressure in the closing moments, but the resilient Hibs backline ensured the gap at the top of the league was cut down to two points and notched up their third victory in a row over their opponents.
