Hibs’ Europa League opponents Brondby will be without one of their key players for Thursday night’s second qualifying round first leg match at Easter Road after South African midfielder Lebogang Phiri ran into visa problems.
The Danish outfit arrived in Edinburgh yesterday afternoon without the 21-year-old, who featured in both legs of their 10-1 aggregate first-round victory over Icelandic side Valur Rekjavik.
Today, Brondby revealed British authorities weren’t able to process their application for a visa for the player for whom Austrian club Rapid Vienna have this week publicly expressed their interest.
“We applied for a visa for him after we qualified for the second round on Thursday but it wasn’t enough time,” Brondby sports director Troeis Bech told his club’s website.
“We have tried to push to get a visa, but it is unfortunately not possible.”
